MR. S.S. NijjarLL.B.(London), Bar-at-Law. Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar, LL.B., Bar-at-Law : Was born on June 7, 1949. Educated in England from the age of 12 years. He obtained LL.B. Degree from the University of London in 1972 and did Bar at Law from Middle Temple INN, London in the year 1975. He practised Law in England from 1975 to 1977. He was enrolled as an Advocate of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on April 28, 1977. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in November, 1989. On October 13, 1995, Punjab Government appointed him as an Additional Advocate General. Practised in the District Courts at Chandigarh, Departmental Authorities, Central Administrative Tribunal which was set up in Chandigarh in the year 1985. He has primarily practised in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, specializing in constitutional and writ matters. During the course of his practice, was Standing Counsel to numerous Nationalised institutions viz. Banks, Government Corporations, Universities and had considerable work in the field of service and Industrial Law. He was elevated to the Bench of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh as an Additional Judge on April 8, 1996. He was transferred as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court and assumed charge on April 26, 1996. He was appointed as a Judge of the Bombay High Court on 3rd April, 1998. Transferred back to Punjab and Haryana High Court and assumed charge on 7th August, 2000. Due to retire on 7th June, 2011. |
